The Green Monster
We’re having a cold snap in North Carolina–it’s 24 degrees outside right now, and a whopping 17 degrees with the wind chill! Brr! I don’t know what possessed me to have a cold smoothie for breakfast today…
It’s a green monster! My first one! I am not a smoothie fan typically, but I’d like to be, because most mornings I have to force myself to eat breakfast. I just can’t eat early in the morning. I’d much rather be able to drink a smoothie and be done with it.
I went with the basic green monster recipe from Green Monster Movement. Two cups of spinach, a banana, a cup of almond milk, and some ice. I left out the flax and added in most of a scoop of vanilla-flavored whey.
The result:
A very green smoothie.
I was worried this was going to taste nasty, but I honestly can’t taste the spinach. I did find a little chunk of it that didn’t get blended and that was a little gross, but for the most part, it’s like the spinach isn’t even there. It just tastes like a slightly banana-flavored smoothie.
I dropped a piece of spinach in the floor while I was making this and before I could pick it up, Heath walked over, sniffed it, and then carried it off to eat it. My dog loves his veggies!
