Who Likes Pie?
I like pie! And today the farmers market smelled like pie! Mmmm…
Many of the healthy food bloggers that I follow always seem to be putting granola or other crunchy things on their yogurt. Yesterday I decided to join in the fun for the first time.
Since I can’t eat granola, I crumbled up a quarter of a cashew LaraBar and put it over top of my peach Chobani Greek yogurt. It was pretty good! Not crunchy, but it definitely added some texture. And some calories, which was good, because my distaste for breakfast often results in me not eating enough in the mornings.
Mid-morning I grabbed two of those heavenly CVS Oreos with the peppermint in the cream…mmmm.
Lunch was some venison chili…
…and eight whole grain Wheat Thins from a box I found in my food cabinet.
I got hungry in the afternoon and had another two Oreos, which did nothing for me, so I decided to go for some protein. I got a package (two, actually–yay for vending machine errors!) of king-sized Peanut M&Ms from the machine downstairs and weighed out half of the bag.
Yes, I counted calories yesterday (as best I could), and I see why I was starving in the afternoon–I have a horrible tendency to undereat until I get to dinner, then eat too much.
I’d forgotten about this Dorito I stole from a co-worker’s snack jar.
Yes, I did manage to eat just one!
After work, I rushed home and got ready for my first run of Couch to 5K Week 5. It was a little rainy and the trail was covered in leaves, and it was a little chilly, but I’m proud to say I got out there and did the entire run without stopping where I wasn’t supposed to. In fact, I was surprised at how easy it was to just run–I almost didn’t want to slow down to walk at the end of the second running segment! I hear that this is part of the reason why the 20-minute run that people think is going to kill them actually turns out to be easier than people think–because once you’ve killed that first 5 minutes, it’s much easier to keep up a jogging pace. We shall see!
I came home and threw dinner in the oven, then grabbed a maple leaf cookie to hold me over while it cooled.
Dinner was a chicken thigh, potatoes, and onions, covered in blue cheese and bacon crumbles. And olive oil. So good! Mmm.
After dinner I took a too-short nap and woke up bleary and wishing that I could set my VCR up to tape House so that I could go back to sleep. Alas, I dragged myself to the living room and watched it from the couch.
This morning I headed to work later than usual–there’s not many people there and I have enough extra time built up that I didn’t have to work a full nine hours today. Although, for the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, there were an awful lot of people bustling about…
I had half of a Pure cherry cashew bar for breakfast.
See what I mean about not eating enough in the mornings?
Jamie and I hit the farmers market for lunch. My intentions were to get some bratwurst for my dad, who liked what we had Sunday enough that he asked me to pick him up a couple of pounds of it, and to see if I could find some pies for Thanksgiving. But the seafood restaurant smelled so good that we decided to grab lunch to go while we were there.
My lunch came with a little thing of coleslaw…
And the homefries I got on the side, and which a passing co-worker nibbled on, thus saving me from eating literally all of them…
And for the main course, a trout sandwich.
That sandwich? Huuuuge. I only ate half for lunch.
I was worried that there wouldn’t be any pies left at the market–it was more crowded than usual for this time of day, being so close to Thanksgiving. But all but one of the places that I checked still had the pumpkin pie that I had been ordered to get for Thanksgiving. I decided to buy my pies at the Swiss Chalet Bakery, where I usually get my bread, because their pies, while a little more expensive than the plain pumpkin pies that another shop was selling, looked a little bigger and a lot prettier. And after I made the decision to buy from them and walked back to their stall, I was informed that if I bought two pies, I would get the second one for half price! This was awesome, because I’m not overfond of pumpkin pie. I’m very glad I decided to buy these, because one shop was selling their pies for $10 each and I got both of these for a little over $13!
This is the apple pie, which smells sooooo goooood.
The top crust is sitting above the fruit filling, which I think is crazy cool. So pretty!
And this is the pumpkin.
It looks pretty tasty, for a pumpkin pie! Much to my amusement, the pumpkin was more expensive than the apple…and they both look way better than the pies I saw priced at $7.99, buy one get one free at Harris Teeter when I was picking up some crescent rolls after work!
Dinner was lazy…
The other half of my trout sandwich and a pear.
I’m for some reason very tired and in need of another nap before The Biggest Loser comes on tonight…!
